passeggiando per levanto

WALKING THROUGH LEVANTO

On foot it is possible to visit all the main monuments of Levanto, walking through
an itinerary covering ancient remains, glimpses of the sea and the Mediterranean scrub.

Starting from the seafront promenade “della Pietra” a steep staircase leads to the hill on which the medieval castle stands.

From here you go down, along a stretch of the ancient wall, to the church of Sant’Andrea.
Going further down you can cross  the ancient dock.

Just a stone’s throw from the famous medieval Loggia.

To the right of the Loggia, go up along a typical cobblestone road to the Costa hill,

the oldest part of the village, where the Clock Tower stands,

the oratory of San Giacomo and the semi-dirute church of S. Maria della Costa.

From there, going down, you arrive in Via Guani, the ancient Via dei Forni and you can continue along
Via Garibaldi walking between eighteenth-century mansions. On the left you can see the former Monastery of the Clarisse.

At the end of Via Garibaldi is the S. Francesco Staircase, which between lemon and olive groves,
leads to the convent and the church of SS. Annunziata.

Over the last few years, a comprehensive redevelopment project was completed.

Transforming the former railway viaduct on the seafront into a beautiful walkway and cycle path that connects Levanto to Bonassola and Framura.

From there you can admire beautiful coves and breathtaking views.

It is recommended highly to visit the villages of Lavaggiorosso, Dosso, Montale,
Legnaro and Chiesanuova, located on the hills around Levanto.

Do not miss a visit to the hermitage of Sant’Antonio del Mesco on the promontory of Mesco,
along the beautiful path that connects Levanto to Monterosso (the first of the Cinque Terre).
